On April 20, 2025, the “Soyuz MS-26” spacecraft successfully landed southeast of Jezkazgan in Kazakhstan. Onboard were American astronaut Donald Pettit and Russian cosmonauts Alexei Ovchinin and Ivan Wagner, completing their seven-month scientific mission aboard the International Space Station.
Scientific Mission of the Crew
The mission began on September 11, 2024, and lasted 220 days. During this time, the crew completed 3,520 orbits around Earth and covered a distance of 150 million kilometers. They conducted 43 scientific experiments, including research into 3D metal printing technology, improvements to water disinfection systems, plant growth under varying water regimes, and fire behavior in microgravity.
QazaqGeography Expedition
The expedition to observe the spacecraft landing was organized by QazaqGeography in collaboration with blogger Askar Zhanapov and active member Saulet Sakenov. A total of 19 participants joined, including 2 children and teenagers from Astana, Karaganda, and Almaty.

Participants’ Impressions
The expedition provided participants with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of space exploration and witness the historic moment of the spacecraft’s landing. Attendees emphasized the importance of such events for fostering interest in science and space among the younger generation.
