On December 5-6, 2023, the International Scientific Conference «The Role of Ancient Turkestan in the History of Turkic Peoples» was held. This event was organized with the support of the Organization of Turkic States, the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan, and the Geographical Council of Turkic States.
The primary aim of the conference was to deeply study the millennia-old history of Turkic peoples and analyze their political, economic, cultural, and geographical heritage. A key focus was identifying national and cultural distinctiveness within the broader history, fostering unity and brotherhood to transmit this valuable heritage to future generations.
The conference brought together scholars and researchers from various countries, including Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and representatives from higher educational institutions. The presence of international organization representatives and expert communities at the event added practical significance.
The conference comprised several sections, including «Politics and Governance in Turkestan: Foundations of Turkish State Traditions», «Science and Culture in Turkestan or Mawarannahr», «Architectural Monuments and Art of Turkestan», «The Role and Significance of Turkestan in the Lives of Turkestanians», and «Turkestan and the Turkic World».
Inspired by the slogan «There is no salvation but through science» of the great thinker Imam Bukhari, participants gained a unique opportunity for in-depth scientific exploration of the history of ancient Turkestan and the cultural richness of Turkic peoples. This event laid the groundwork for subsequent fundamental, applied, and interdisciplinary research. The conference materials, including presentations, reports, and scientific articles, will be published in a special international edition.
